I have quite a few books (which I'm really grateful for) but I would like to share some of my favourites with you. You could say it's the definitive Shardette summer reading guide!
First up it's Influence by Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen. If you haven't read this yet.. get down to the book-store ASAP. It completely blew my expectations of pretty pictures and Olsen editorials. Instead it has so many great in-depth interviews that allow you to delve into the artist or designer's world.
I bought Fashion Algebra about 7 years ago before I really knew much about Anna Piaggi. Obviously a must for all you Vogue Italia fans, as it pretty much sums up the 80s and 90s under Piaggi's control.
The Cheap Date Guide to Style is so much fun, it reminds me to not take fashion so seriously and to enjoy what you wear. This is next in line for a re-read.
All you need to know about Balenciaga interspersed with pretty, pretty pictures.
Now onto the novels, Shopping & Seduction and Mr.Selfridge is an interesting read. If you ever wondered why department stores look and operate the way they do.. it's all due to Harry Gordon Selfridge.
My favourite novel by far.. How Luxury Lost it's Lustre is a shocking book which will change the way you look at Louis Vuitton forever, and inevitably love Hermes!
Calling all Coco Chanel fans! The life history of one of the world's greatest designers (if not the greatest).
I just finished reading Bringing Home the Birkin in a record 4 days (that's fast for me!) and must say it's an upbeat, chick-lit style auto-biography of one interesting, Birkin addicted man. Very, very jealous!
My current read: I'm almost finished and I don't think there has been a page where I didn't laugh out loud (LOLz). Great for looking at fashion through rosy, laughable and optimistic eyes.
And last, but not least my signed copy of The Sartorialist, a beautiful coffee table book that will act in the future as the zeitgeist of our times.
Happy Reading :)
