PFW trend report

As they say, better late than never. Here's my recap of the major trends at PFW.

The strapless column shape is back. As seen at Alexander Wang for Balenciaga and Stella McCartney. It's a gorgeous, feminine shape but I'm not sure if I'm game enough to try it yet!

Sheer black voille, tulle and mesh were popping up everywhere! This is a trend I'm super keen to adopt. Such a sexy way to reveal a little flesh ;).

Whether it be cream, pale grey or white - light hues are going to be H-U-G-E next Winter! Buy an oversized cream coat PRONTO!

Top heavy, slim bottom silhouettes were a common occurence a la Celine, Balenciaga & Chloe. If you're trying this trend, go for a large oversized coat with slim jeans or bare legs.. BRRR! x Sharday

beauty q&a

Drop Dead Gorgeous Daily contacted me recently with a Q&A to quiz me on all things 'Shardette' beauty related. Not that I classify myself as a beauty product addict, but I do like to patron a few select brands and have few tips and tricks for you - check it out below xx Sharday

What are your top 5 can’t-live-without beauty products?

  1. Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm
  2. MAC SPF15+ Foundation
  3. Lancome Hydra Zen Nuit cream
  4. Dry Shampoo
  5. MAC Pressed Powder

What’s your favourite hairstyle to rock during the week?

Because my hair is a bit ‘meh’ naturally, I am constantly curling it! Hence, soft, waterfall waves are my favourite – weekdays to weekends.

How do you keep your skin in shape?

I try to cleanse with Aesop everyday and make sure never to go to bed with make-up on. I’ve read a million times that you should drink lots of water for good skin – but I always seem to forget!

How about your hair? How do you keep it healthy?

Washing it only 1-2 times a week. Luckily my hair isn’t the greasy kind, so I try and leave it in-between washes for as long as possible. For some reason, the less I wash my hair, the better it looks!

Which beauty secret do you swear by?

Always curl your lashes before mascara application!

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever been given?

According to my Mum – “Don’t forget to moisturise your neck at night, or you’ll end up with a wrinkled turkey neck!”. Gobble gobble..

Describe a typical working day?

I just moved to Vancouver, so my typical working day (not that I have a job right now) involves waking up, eating delicious home-made muesli, doing some yoga/gym exercise and then spending the rest of the day working on my blog, walking around Vancouver or reading books. Tough life!

Favourite fragrance? What does it remind you of?

Balenciaga Eau de Parfum. It reminds me of walks through the forest, smelling beautiful violets.

Favourite beauty brand and why?

Probably MAC, I only got into the brand about a year ago, but it has pretty much changed my ‘make-up’ life. Their pressed powders, foundations, brushes and lipsticks are like no other.

Walk us through your daily makeup application.

It’s a very simple and quick routine.

  1. Clean face with toner
  2. Apply BB Cream or tinted moisturiser
  3. Brush face with MAC pressed powder
  4. Brush face with NARS ‘Orgasm’ bronzer
  5. Curl lashes, then coat with mascara

If you could take only one beauty item with you on a deserted island, which would it be and why?

Something practical.. Lucas Paw Paw Ointment. It fixes dry lips and it’s great for burns, cuts AND insect bites. It’s a wonder balm!

what to wear: christmas edition

Christmas is just around the corner! When this time of year comes I'm always faced with that annoying question: what do I wear to *insert event*. Here's my little Christmas guide as to dressing for two very important dates:

The Christmas work party can be the hardest to dress for. You want to come across as respectable but not end looking like an absolute prude. I always try to stick to the 'ONE' rule. You can only reveal one part of your body in excess e.g. shorter dress = high neck/back, bit of cleavage = longer hem-lines, sexy back = high neck & long hem-lines. It's a no-brainer and stops you looking like a tramp in front of your boss... awkward.

L-R 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Minute clutch  /  Stella McCartney dress  /  Eddie Borgo ring  /  Givenchy zip heels

Christmas day is the glorious time when you come together with your family, eat like crazy, spoil each other rotten & have a merry ole' time. This outfit is pretty simple yet uber chic & easy to wear. White shirts are my go-to item. They can transform the most casual outfit into a Christmas miracle!

L-R Karen Walker Super Duper Critter sunglasses  /  Chloe tassel loafers

Stella McCartney blouse & Printed pants  /  Balenciaga First Class bag

Merry Christmas! xx Sharday

playtime

This little Zimmermann playsuit was so perfect for LMFF Runway 6 & 7. Casual yet 'fashion-y' enough to sit front row (yes I know I'm showing off a bit).
P.s. If you liked any of the looks from LMFF, you can Shop The Runway at Westfield, which completely solves that "I want that right now" issue. xx Shardette

a few of my favourite books..

I have quite a few books (which I'm really grateful for) but I would like to share some of my favourites with you. You could say it's the definitive Shardette summer reading guide!

First up it's Influence by Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen. If you haven't read this yet.. get down to the book-store ASAP. It completely blew my expectations of pretty pictures and Olsen editorials. Instead it has so many great in-depth interviews that allow you to delve into the artist or designer's world.

I bought Fashion Algebra about 7 years ago before I really knew much about Anna Piaggi. Obviously a must for all you Vogue Italia fans, as it pretty much sums up the 80s and 90s under Piaggi's control.

The Cheap Date Guide to Style is so much fun, it reminds me to not take fashion so seriously and to enjoy what you wear. This is next in line for a re-read.

All you need to know about Balenciaga interspersed with pretty, pretty pictures.

Now onto the novels, Shopping & Seduction and Mr.Selfridge is an interesting read. If you ever wondered why department stores look and operate the way they do.. it's all due to Harry Gordon Selfridge.

My favourite novel by far.. How Luxury Lost it's Lustre is a shocking book which will change the way you look at Louis Vuitton forever, and inevitably love Hermes!

Calling all Coco Chanel fans! The life history of one of the world's greatest designers (if not the greatest).

I just finished reading Bringing Home the Birkin in a record 4 days (that's fast for me!) and must say it's an upbeat, chick-lit style auto-biography of one interesting, Birkin addicted man. Very, very jealous!

My current read: I'm almost finished and I don't think there has been a page where I didn't laugh out loud (LOLz). Great for looking at fashion through rosy, laughable and optimistic eyes.

And last, but not least my signed copy of The Sartorialist, a beautiful coffee table book that will act in the future as the zeitgeist of our times.

Happy Reading :)

xx Shardette
